Babar Azam Over Takes Hashim Amla and Virat Kohli
Breaking the previous mark held by Hashim Amla, Pakistan captain Babar Azam became the player to reach 5,000 runs in ODI cricket the fastest. He completed the feat in 98 innings, compared to Amla's 101 innings. Currently, he is the only cricketer to have scored 18 ODI hundreds in fewer than 100 innings.
During the current fourth ODI match between Pakistan and New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi, Babar Azam significantly broke an existing ODI world record. He established the record while playing an excellent inning in which he registered his 18th career ODI century. Babar broke the record for the fastest record-breaking innings in ODI cricket when he reached the milestone of 5,000 runs throughout the course of the innings. He beat the previous record (101) held by Hashim Amla and became the first to reach the milestone in less than 100 innings (98), followed by Viv Richards and Virat Kohli, who was previously tied for second place (114), are now third on the list.
Babar is the only player to complete 18 ODI hundreds in less than 100 innings, making him the fastest to do so. David Warner and Hashim Amla are ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively.
If we talk about the match, Pakistan put a huge total of 334 on the board after New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first. With an unbeatable advantage of 3-0, the hosts have already won the series. Babar, their captain, led the push toward the enormous total. The No. 1 ODI batsman in the world struck 107 runs in 117 balls, and Agha Salman added 50 runs to his total. Pakistan finished strongly, thanks to cameos from Shaheen Afridi and Mohammed Harris.
